and then, there’s Father’s Day
Personally, I don’t want it. To be honest, it isn’t necessary.
I am only speaking for myself, of course.
In the same way, that there is no reason for me to celebrate Mother’s Day, I do not really need another occasion to remind me what I know I am – a father.
But some pundits thought that if there is a special day for mothers, it should be fair that fathers be given the same accolade, and so there’s Father’s Day.
Really now, who was fighting for equality?
Father’s do not need a special day to be secured of what they are and why they are.
Sure, you just want to have a day to recognize all his efforts and hard work. Fine, I just wish it didn’t have a name, and done anytime of the year. That would have been more sincere.
So, you go out with Dad and eat at his favorite dining place, to celebrate the day. Then there’s 83.56% that he will foot the bill. And it was supposed to be his day. (I just made that stats up, don’t bother verifying it.)
By the way, who drives the car? Well, lucky if junior is already of legal age to get his license. Chances are, it will still be Dad.
Hmm… I’m beginning to sound like the Father’s Day Grouch. Actually, I really don’t mind Father’s Day… I don’t mind at all.
Whether it exists or not.
But it does, and as a father, I can’t help but be part of it.

Just read a sweet Father’s Day message for Angel’s dad on Facebook. Now, isn’t that heartwarming although that euphoria might lead you to treat your kids later for some fine but costly dining out?
I’ve seen your kids and how they relate to you. Gosh, it’s not a calculated pose for Facebook to make others think they’re good kids. They are. You’re colossally blessed in that regard.
it’s actually the other way around, Jan. it’s them who treated me to a merienda at the foodcourt in SM Clark. you can say I’m happy with my kids, Jan. I just wish I could give them more.

Wow, that’s really cool. Appears mundane now, but these moments make you a rich dad. Nothing can top that, except of course when they gifted you with a grand kid. Ooops, but wag muna, for crying out loud. Ahehehe
hahaha… to be honest, Jan. I want to see them grandkids soon

Last father’s day, I was the one who spent for all the food while my mom cooked. My dad did nothing, you know, he’s still recovering from stroke.
It has been that way since I had started working and earning income for myself – before the stroke. I was the one still spending for the gasoline and the restaurant treats.
It’s good to know from the comment conversation that your kids were the one who treated you this day.
I like father’s day and mother’s day celebrations – it’s for the kids to remember and honor their parents. What I am strongly against is that the businesses take advantage of these special celebrations: that’s money out of the pocket.
